Be Part of History: Walk the New Fremantle Traffic Bridge

01 October 2026

Be Part of History

On Sunday 1 November 2026, be among the first people to walk across the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge before it officially opens to traffic.

This free community celebration by Main Roads WA invites locals and visitors to experience a significant milestone in Fremantle's history, with a unique opportunity to enjoy panoramic river views from the bridge and take part in a family-friendly festival on the river foreshore below.

To help Main Roads plan catering, transport and festival activities, attendees are encouraged to register in advance via this link.

Sunday 1 November 2026 9am-1pm

Walk the Bridge

For one morning only, the new bridge will be open exclusively to pedestrians before vehicles begin using the crossing.

Visitors can walk across the bridge at their own pace between 9am and 1pm, with entry points available from both the north and south sides of the Swan River.

Whether you're a Freo local, infrastructure enthusiast, walker or simply curious to see the new landmark up close, this is your chance to experience the bridge from a different perspective.

Enjoy the Festival

Head beneath the bridge to the Festival Hub on Beach Street.

The free community festival will feature family friendly activities, sausage sizzle, roving entertainment and performances across the morning.

Check back as the event nears as more information on activities and entertainment, including North Fremantle festival activities, will be released.

Getting There

There is no event parking available.

Visitors are encouraged to walk, wheel or ride to the event. Bike racks will be available for cyclists.

Public transport is the easiest way to get there. Every Sunday, travel is free for all SmartRider and contactless payment passengers. Catch the train to Fremantle or North Fremantle Station and enjoy a short walk to the bridge.

A free shuttle bus will also operate from Fremantle Station to the event precinct.
