This August, The Anjelms Project in Fremantle is hosting Sufiyan Khatri, a master artisan from Kutch, India, whose family has practised the centuries-old art of Ajrakh block printing for generations.
Ajrakh is one of India's most intricate textile traditions - hand-carved wooden blocks, natural indigo dyeing, and a process that can take weeks to complete a single piece of cloth. Sufiyan will run a series of hands-on workshops at the Fremantle studio, giving locals a rare opportunity to learn directly from a practising master of a living cultural tradition - printing their own textile and working with natural dyes across two immersive days.
This is a rare Australian visit, and a strong visual story - hand block printing, natural indigo dye vats, and generations-deep craft knowledge, all happening in Fremantle.
