Boutique, not big box, Fremantle is one giant, 'open-air' shopping centre with unique shops and boutiques found along the length of its inner city streets and terraces. Discover fashion, menswear, shoes, gifts, bookshops, and homewares that you won't find anywhere else.
City centre
In the centre of town is the historic Fremantle Markets. Browse amongst the buskers for a hand-made artisan wares, gorgeous pottery, or locally designed and fashioned at the likes of Collab - Australian by Design.
Lining both sides of Market Street is an array of fashion stores with a strong and stylish menswear offering plus plenty of choice for women including Gorman, Dangerfield, Cheep, WA's own Bob's Shoe Store and the flagship store for Morrison. New pockets of street side shops are evolving with Fremantle's transformation - check Cantonment Street and Atwell Arcade, High Street Mall and King's Square.
West End
Take your time to wander through the West End precincts and explore the boutiques, galleries and gift stores that make shopping in Fremantle such an enjoyable experience.
You'll find precious Australian South Sea pearls at Kailis Jewellery on Collie Street, yarns, maps and the latest fashion in footwear. Over on Marine Terrace you will find fashion direct from Italy. On High Street, a wander in the direction of the Round House will take you past Three Stories, Common Ground, menswear stores, Remedy, Bodkins Bootery, Kartique, Ame Belle and much more. Second hand bookstores, vintage vinyl, high end fashion and jewellery stores complete the offering.
New Edition Bookshop is more than just an independent bookshop on the corner of High and Henry Streets, with literature ranging from graphic novels through to great classics, as well as stunning paperwares on offer. They also stock a large number of local writing published by Fremantle Press.
On Henry Street, just up from Moore and Moore Cafe, look for Paper Bird Books - their range is dedicated to children's books and art.
Still along High Street, discover a piece of art steeped in story from the oldest culture on the continent at Japingka Aboriginal Art Gallery.
Enjoy a day meandering around the West End to find flagship stores, pop ups and studios with plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way.
South Fremantle & Wray Avenue
The South Fremantle area is overflowing with fine art galleries, prints, homewares and fashion. On South Terrace you can view the current exhibitions and purchase artwork at Red Umbrella Gallery and Earlywork Gallery.
It's also the home to Corner Store, a precinct in itself - stop for a coffee, book into the salon or browse the retail store.
Madam Bukeshla located on Wray Avenue specialises in hand-stitched garments with timeless appeal. If you are looking for a place with defiantly non-mass-produced clothing, this is it. Across the road and still on Wray Avenue, Pekho: Wear + Wares offers a range of locally designed and produced womenswear with a focus on natural clothe fibre and unstructured silhouettes. They also sell an eclectic range of homewares, accessories, gifts and fresh flowers. Luce Del Sol is known for exceptional swimwear and right alongside Envee will complete the outfit.
East End
The East End of Fremantle is home to a range of contemporary labels and stores. Megan Salmon enjoys widespread popularity, but with a birthplace right here in Fremantle, is a store high on any self-respecting fashionistas 'must visit' places. The Butcher Shop on Point Street is a creative hub for budding urban artists. Located in the grounds of Fremantle Art Centre, FOUND harbours WA's largest selection of locally made wares. Browse for hours until you find that perfect piece of jewellery, worked wood, ceramic or glassware, then have a cup of tea at the conveniently located café next door.
North Fremantle
Just across the Swan River and into North Fremantle you'll find a traditional High Street strip from Tydeman Road to the North Fremantle Train station and a diverse but tempting mix of boutiques offering made to order gowns, surf and leisure wear, antiques and homewares.
East Fremantle
The George Street strip punches above its weight in the fashion stakes. This genteel part of town has plentiful boutiques along its relatively compact length, also dotted with wine bars, cafes and restaurants. Find high end European labels along with some home grown offerings spanning women’s clothes, shoes, swimwear, perfume and jewellery.
Fremantle Industrial Arts Quarter
Looking for the unexpected? Head to this artsy precinct where warehouses sit alongside new residential developments and artists studios, and pops of surprise come in the form of shops selling furniture, homewares, art and clothing. On Blinco Street, Blinc and Co is a classy showcase of local art and 60s-era furniture from around the world. On Stack Street, the converted mechanics workshop at Stackwood now houses abundant pot plants and garden-related gifts. Nearby, Bellisimo Bower is a vast treasure trove of textiles, clothing, homewares and garden objects imported from India, Japan and Europe. You can even pick up a uke or similar at Penny Lane’s Music Workshop on Knutsford Street.
