Star Journey: The Seven Sisters and Night Sky Stories - Gallery 1

16 May 2025
Paintings of the Seven Sisters star story and night sky constellations by various artists.

The Seven Sisters Tjukurpa, the Dreaming creation law, is important to Australian Aboriginal people across the country.

It is an epic story told in many different languages as it crosses Australia, east to west, through the vast lands belonging to the Martu, Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, and Yankunytjathara people. It is a story and a map passed on over thousands of years through song.

This is Aboriginal Australians' creation story describing how the world was made. It is a songline that follows the passage of seven sisters as they evade a lustful magical man. As their adventure unfolds, so does the world come into being with its landforms and sky.

Exhibiting artists include Tjungkara Ken, Michelle Cooper, Athena Nangala Granites, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Muna Kulyuru  & Sonya Edney.
