Fremantle-based artist Jem Ham presents 'Emergent Curiosities', a solo exhibition of paintings exploring the hidden landscapes of the mind. Inspired by Aldous Huxley’s idea that “our mind still has its darkest Africas, its unmapped Borneos and Amazonian basins,” these works are collected specimens, revealing strange forms born of intuition, memory, feeling, and archetypal imagery, forming a kind of psychic ecology. Each painting dives into mystery and emerges as a curiosity. What they are and what they mean is still open to interpretation. Almost two years in the making, the exhibition offers visitors the chance to encounter these unique curiosities, perhaps finding doorways to their own unmapped regions.
