Fremantle has seen a proliferation of small bars and dram shops in recent years, each with a character and atmosphere all of their own. They lie scattered throughout the town like urban 'watering holes' that draw in locals and tourists alike. Some are quiet places to savor and nurse a drink, others are bustling beerhalls and live music venues. With so many places to try a tipple, whatever experience you are looking for, you can find it in Fremantle.
Chasing a speakeasy vibe in the city centre? That would be The Aardvark basement bar - slotting nicely underneath the Norfolk Hotel. For a backstreet bar, the Fremantle Market Bar is located on Essex Street, and is close to town, but tucked away from the noise. If you want something a bit stronger - Holy Smokes – is a hip whisky bar with a great American menu, and a generous bourbon list. If wine is more to your taste, you should stop by at Vins Tapas on the Cappuccino Strip. A little bit off the main drag you can find the very French Whisper Wine Bar - a place of true peace and tranquility, located in the grounds of a restored 19th Century limestone flour mill on Essex Street.
Further down in the West End you'll find Ronnie Nights and Strange Company. Two brilliant bars that are well-known for their cocktails, food and amazing ambience. If you fancy a view with your drink, head down to Victoria Quay and have a cold one at the Freo Harbour Bar located in the E Shed Markets, which has a stunning vista of the working harbour.
Heading South, you can bar-hop from Who's Your Mumma onward to Percy Flint Boozery and Eatery - and finally wind-down with a late night wine at Madalenas.
Over in North Fremantle, discover the suave and very debonair Mrs. Brown Bar, right next door to WA's best live music venue and uber cool icon, Mojos Bar. Piggy Food Co is another neighbour offering craft beer and tasty eats.
While in the east end you can discover the trendy live music and extensive drinks list at bar Freo.Social.
