Here’s a spoiler: men aren’t the same as each other. Some are streetwise teens, others are snappy city workers and others still are dignified types in search of a jaunty hat. The men’s clothing stores in Fremantle recognise this, which is why we’ve become a bit of a go-to shopping spot for men of all stripes.
Let’s start with those hard to please youths. Streetwear stores are plentiful in Fremantle, and they each have their subtle differences. The label-conscious will find right-now threads at 1991 Skateshop and City Beach, mixing surf, skate and street gear in various measures. Mi Life adds the sneakers. There’s a 70s surf culture at the longstanding Three Stories, where on-trend style meets an alternative feel.
At Common Ground Collective, pick up a tee, hoodie or pair of cufflinks designed by a local artist. As a counterpoint, the skate and surf gear at Wear2 is sourced from around the world.
Warren’s Menswear is your reliable men’s clothing den – with surprises. It stocks a phenomenal range of Levis jeans, and an eye-watering number of smart casual shirts, from Ben Sherman to Seidensticker. It’s not just suit jackets and smart ties here, but the service is old school attentive.
Likewise at Bousfields in High Street, where they’ll happily fit you out for a suit while you browse the more casual shirts, socks and tees. If it’s headwear you’re after, this is the place; find hats made from paper, straw or wool.
Terrace Men is for the sophisticated dresser. European labels, fine knits and sharp shoes adorn the store. Investment dressers gravitate here; it’s hard to come out looking anything other than well put together.
And do step into the local institution that is Bodkins Bootery. The range is vast and the labels unique – not least the Anastazi boots, which are locally made by hand.
