IT'S BEACH WEATHER

How good is summer? It's so nice to be able to pop to the beach on these hot days. If you're feeling adventurous, check out SOS Surf CoStand Up Surf Shop or elemental for all your stand up paddle and kiteboarding needs. Or for something really unique, sail the seas with Leeuwin Ocean Adventure. While you're out and about, why not head to Leighton for brunch at The Orange Box? Or you could stroll down South Terrace for coffee at Threeo Coffee & Eats before hitting the sand at South Beach. Drop past Bathers for a swim and a drink at Bather's Beach House. There are so many stunning beaches to choose from, make sure you experience the best of Fremantle's aquatic playground.

FREMANTLE'S NEWEST HOT-SPOTS

Come and check out all the new venues in town - Fremantle is turning it on this summer. Darling Darling is the latest addition to our beloved West End. This quirky bar makes you feel like you're sailing the high seas with its nautical theme. Benny's Yard is now open on Paddy Troy Mall at the back of their famous restaurant on the Cappuccino Strip. The Old Synagogue officially opened on South Terrace in December. This stunning building from 1902 has been transformed in to four individual venues. Mr Chapple’s, Tonic & Ginger, L’Chaim and The Arbor will fill the venue with life, music, entertainment, drinks and bites. Jessie's at the Beach is the newest coffee spot in North Fremantle. Grab your morning brew there before hitting Leighton Beach.

Create a new healthy, positive routine for this year that includes plenty of 'you time'. We think summer is the perfect opportunity to take a moment of pause and enjoy some self-care. Dinosaurs come alive in Fremantle this summer from 1 January to 2 February. Enjoy free family adventures these school holidays - gather your little explorers, seek out and get up close to ten huge dinosaurs. Snap a selfie for your chance to win the Ultimate Kids Birthday Party. FALLS FESTIVAL | 4 AND 5 JANUARY 

Falls Festival is heading to Fremantle it's not too late to grab your tickets! This fun and fabulous festival takes place over the weekend of January 4 and 5 and we can't wait to see the likes of Halsey, Vampire Weekend, Disclosure, Peking Duk, Of Monsters And Men, PNAU, Banks, Thelma Plum, John Farnham and Matt Corby take to the stage in Fremantle. UNDER THE BRIDGE | BACK FOR SUMMER

Fremantle's favourite food trucks are back at the East Street Jetty for the summer season. Forget about cooking dinner because now every Monday evening from 5 pm - 8 pm, you can head to this selection of Perth’s best food trucks including Eat No Evil, Juice PalaceBean Eatin'Piadina Nonna PinaEl Argentino and Stampede Gelato. With live music every week, this is the perfect stop for some great food and atmosphere right on the water.

BLOOM EXHIBITION | FREMANTLE MARKETS

There is always plenty to see, smell and taste at the Fremantle Markets and the current Bloom Exhibition is worth checking out. In a conscious effort to create, educate and encourage awareness of re-use and recycling of single-use plastics within the community, the Fremantle Markets has teamed up with local schools to exhibit a fascinating array of handmade jellyfish from the roof’s rafters within the Markets. Head in for a look, a shop and something to eat in The Yard.

FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE | SUNDAY TUNES 

Spend a lazy afternoon at the Fremantle Arts Centre with free live tunes every Sunday from 2 pm - 4 pm. Bring down a picnic and rug or grab some wood-fired pizzas from the bar and enjoy the local and touring acts. The January program will see Randa and the Soul Kingdom, Kruger James, Dan Howls and Toby performing over the coming Sundays.

SOUTH BEACH SUNSET MARKETS

These gorgeous markets offer food from around the world, cold drinks and live entertainment in a stunning location by the sea. South Beach Sunset Markets are on every Saturday evening from 5 pm - 9 pm through summer. This is the perfect place to watch the sun going down over the Indian Ocean and take in the beauty of Fremantle.

ANCIENT ROME | WA MARITIME MUSEUM

Don't miss this fantastic exhibition at the WA Maritime MuseumAncient Rome: Epic Innovators and Engineers showcases the determination, machines and genius that carved the great Roman Empire. This is fascinating history that appeals to both adults and kids. Could be a great school holiday outing or something nice to do on the weekend after brunch or before a drink and dinner out in Fremantle.

SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS IN FREMANTLE

ONE DAY | 25 JANUARY 

The City of Fremantle’s One Day event is returning on 25 January. In an evolution of previous years’ formats, the 2020 event will centre around Bathers Beach and the Kidogo Arthouse precinct with a celebration that’s inclusive to all cultures. A Smoking Ceremony will start the day’s proceedings, which includes music, dance, craft activities, food tastings, an art exhibition and much more. The family-friendly community event will close with a sunset ceremony. Everyone is invited to One Day in Fremantle, which embraces and encourages diversity, inclusion and acceptance.

With so much incredible musical talent in Fremantle's backyard, the Norfolk Hotel decided to bring it to the people! Pirate Life presents Curious Sounds Sunday Sessions in the Norfolk courtyard from 4 - 6 pm. Kicking off 19 January the Norfolk will be showing off the like of Cathie Travers (piano accordion) & Zola Lee (violin), Stuart Orchard (guitarscapes), Stella Cain (WAAPA voice graduate) & Christian Meares (WAAPA guitar), Major Swing Project with Little Miss Squeezebox and many more.

THE WAIFS | FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE | 30 JANUARY

WA’s much loved, homegrown exports The Waifs return to the Fremantle Arts Centre on Thursday 30 January. 2019 was a very busy year for the multi ARIA winning trio. They loaded up and headed out, travelling across Australia as they shared songs from their now expansive eight album catalogue. We can't wait to see them back in Fremantle this month and hear those favourite familiar tunes.

Fremantle is the gateway to Rottnest Island, Western Australia's very own island getaway, featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world's finest beaches and bays. A special place for Western Australians and a popular destination for interstate and international visitors, it's just a 25 minute ferry ride from B Shed on Victoria Quay. Plenty of opportunities for a quokka selfie, snorkel, or bike ride around this exquisite island.

SCULPTURE AT BATHERS | 15 FEBRUARY –2 MARCH 

Sculpture at Bathers returns with over 90 works by emerging and recognised Western Australian sculptors. Discover sculptures on the beach, lining the timber boardwalk, along the winding path, in bushland below the limestone cliffs at Arthur Head and inside the historic Kidogo Arthouse.

HIGHWAY TO HELL | COMING SOON 

The Perth Festival has just announced Highway to Hell as the finale of the 2020 festival. This once-in-a-lifetime event will see Canning Highway transformed into the world’s longest stage as we celebrate the late, great AC/DC frontman Bon Scott - Fremantle's most famous son. On Sunday 1 March 2020 from 5 pm, the event will claim 10km of open highway for local and international acts to perform AC/DC songs from stages on the back of semi-trailers in a slow parade from Applecross to Fremantle. Save the date - this will be a fabulous free event on the Labour Day long weekend followed by after-parties in Fremantle.
