Description

Allen, or Big Al, your tour guide is a Fremantle local, having been born and raised in Fremantle. He has been researching and writing about Fremantles history for over thirty years so many of the tales that he tells in this walk are unique to this tour. Not that the words you hear are all his, for he also quotes the words of the early settlers which they used to describe Fremantle, or the feelings they held about living in Fremantle. The tour is about two kms in length and takes approximately two hours, including time for a refreshment stop along the way. (Any costs incurred in the walk are not included in the price.) The tour is walked at a leisurely pace and goes past many of the recognized landmarks of Fremantle. The 5.15 tour could be described as a pub crawl tour as it includes a couple of hotel stops along the route, stopping at some of the oldest hotels in Fremantle. After all, much of the history of Fremantle happened in these hotels. (Drink costs not included in price). As this tour includes a couple of hotel stops, it takes a little longer to complete, approximately 2.5 hours. This is a good tour to take with a group of friends. All tours start from the grassed area on Round House Hill, just near the ship artwork. This is to the left of the Round House as you come up the stairs. (A visit to the Roundhouse and the Whalers tunnel, which are free to the public, are highly recommended.)
