Starting with a couple of newcomers to Freo’s bar and pub scene:
- Darling Darling on Henry Street with its discreet entry and compact space is like walking into the hull of an old pirate ship and harks back to Fremantle’s seafaring history.
- The Old Synagogue with its multilayered venues was a hit over summer. It marks the entrance to Fremantle’s Cappuccino Strip (it’s opposite the Norfolk Hotel).
- Varsity has arrived in Freo with it’s pop up on Collie Street.
West End and Victoria Quay
Jungle Bird on High Street was named best new small bar of 2019 is definitely worth a stop.
Looking for a fabulous view – head on up to The National Hotel rooftop bar or there’s a harbour view at the Freo Harbour Bar on Victoria Quay located in the E Shed Markets.
Experience a sense of sophisticated cool at Strange Company on Nairn Street.

Cappuccino Strip and surrounds
On the Cappuccino Strip, the Norfolk Hotel and Beerpourium open their doors from the 6 June and just off the main street, the Federal Hotel on William Street and Varsity Freo pop-up on Collie Street are open. In the East End Clancy's Fish Pub will be pouring their clever beers.
Further afield
South Fremantle offers a bar hop scene all of its own starting at Who's Your Mumma at the five way corner of Wray Avenue and South Terrace. Next, and with a strong community vibe try Percy Flint and The Local Hotel.
Image: La Cabaña
Strolling further south to the beach you’ll find a vibrant scene at Madelena’s Bar and the latest opener with its gorgeous festoon lighting at La Cabaña.
Over the bridge you’ll find the quintessential neighbourhood bar Mrs Brown Bar. It’s a cosy place to hang out with a glass of red over a game of scrabble.
